Now Playing: The Incredibles
Topic: Knitting

Had a chance to join the Knitting 4 Children knitalong this weekend. The group was knitting a baby sweater (actually using one of my patterns, how cool is that?) and thought I'd show you a picture of the finished product.

You can find the pattern here: http://gailbable.tripod.com/id41.html

I also crocheted at towel and dishcloth set , a project the crochet group I attend at the East Palestine library is working on.  They turned out very nice and I plan to send them to my parents in an Easter package.

Beribboned Eyelet Sweater
Now Playing: The Travel Channel
Topic: Knitting

I finally got an opportunity to try the Beribboned Sweater from the book Kids, Kids, Kids. It's a great pattern and I love how it turned out. This will be a gift for Onya for Easter.  I'm going to start another for Kat in sport weight yarn and will buy them matching dresses.

March Flood
Mood:  sad
We've had 18" of snow melt this week. Combine that with an inch of rain over night and we flooded pretty good yesterday. Our normally quiet 10 ft wide, 6" deep creek (in our front yard) is about 15 ft wide and three feet deep right now.

We've been fighting for two days with water in the basement. We've had between 4 and 6" off and on and our poor sump pump just can't keep up with it.  Wayne will need to replace the lower drywall when it all dries out.

Our crazy cat thinks this is the greatest way to catch birds...

Knitalong Sweater
Mood:  a-ok
Now Playing: Lord of Heaven and Earth
Topic: Knitting

One of my online knitting groups (Knitting 4 Children) had a knitalong of a cute raglan top down baby sweater. I changed a few things, did my increases as yarn overs and added a fan and feather bottom to it. I added a matching hat and booties and it will be off as a baby gift for my cousin Chuck's new grand daughter. Very nice pattern and I enjoyed making it.

New Wonderful Afghan
Mood:  surprised
Topic: Knitting

Check out the wonderful surprise the UPS man delivered yesterday. One of my favorite online groups the made this for me  (the  DishclothsRus group).  Isn't it just splendid?  It's huge and as you can see matches my furniture quite well. My favorite color is forest green so it is just perfect for me. Thank you to everyone who participated in making it!  You did my heart a world of good.

Fan and Feather Shawl
Mood:  hungry
Topic: Knitting
Finished up the main knitting on  a Fan and Feather Shawl I've been working on.  It's knit from some vintage cream colored yarn called Angelica by Patons.  It's 85% acrylic and 15% mohair.  Once I finish it will be donated to someone in our church for the prayer shawl ministry. I'm teaching a class using this pattern on April 14th in Warren, OH at Knitter's Fantasy. If you are in the area that day, stop in a see me!

Native American Support Projects
Mood:  lazy
Topic: Family

Happy 2007 everyone! This picture is my four daughters and my granddaughter Onya giving you their "Cindy Lou Who" look. Right now I'm working on some shawls , different styles but all in the Fan and Feather pattern. I'm teaching a Prayer Shawl class at Knitter's Fantasy (a large all day knitting show in Warren, OH) on April 14th and I'm busy knitting up samples for it.

Just finished a Five Hour Baby Sweater set for the Cheyenne  River Indian Reservation. My yahoo group, Native American Support:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NativeAmericanSupport/  is doing a sweater drive for the reservation. I've decided to make baby outfits to send to the reservation WIC program.

Sunday thoughts
Mood:  sad
Topic: Babies

It's not been one of our better weekends.  My Uncle Larry (who is only 57) had to have surgery Friday to remove a very large brain tumor. He's not doing very well. There are signs that he is not able to move his left side. Both eyes are swollen completely shut and he's not able to talk. He did squeeze my aunt's hand when she asked him if he knew who she was so, that is one good sign. He became very restless yesterday and the hospital staff had to restrain him which he's pretty angry about.

My parents came up from North Carolina for the surgery. They went to visit my mom's older sister Jean , who is suffering from breast cancer. They found her not doing well either and had her moved to the local hospital in  Salem, OH. My cousin called last night and said the doctors believe her body is shutting down and she won't live long. She's been longing to go home to the Lord. I pray it is a painless journey for her. I sure will miss her though. My parents moved to Denver when I was 17 and she took over being my "mom" here. She also has spent the last 23 years of holidays with us after my uncle passed away.

My 21 month old grand daughter recently learned a new trick, stripping all her clothes off. She's a real stinker about letting us get them back on her!

On the needles, a prayer shawl , Pi Style in a fan and feather pattern for my friend Rachel who just lost both her mother and husband within a week of each other, a triangle shaped Fan and Feather Prayer Shawl, and a 5 hour baby sweater for a sweater drive  my online Native American Support Group is doing.

Topic: Knitting

Man, have I been bad about keeping up with this blog!  Take look at  my first knitting project of 2007!  I learn to do some Fair Isle weaving and made a set of Norwegian mittens.  This set will get a matching hat and be sent to Denver, CO's Stand Up For Kids Charity.  My brother lives and works in the Denver area and I'm so pleased to be able to knit for this charity.

Back from Disney
Mood:  bright
Topic: Family

Just got back from our long awaited trip to Disney World. Look who we ran into at the Magic Kingdom!

The girls had a fantastic time and we loved staying at the Port Orleans Hotels. Below are more pictures of our vacation. The weather was nice and sunny but, cool enough so we could enjoy running around the parks!

October Hail
Mood:  incredulous
Now Playing: Third Day
Topic: Home

We had a drastic weather change yesterday.  About 5:30 p.m. the wind began to kick up the rain changed from rain to about 1/2" sized hail. In a matter of about ten minutes our deck and trampoline were white with about an inch of hail.

My 19 month old Granddaughter Onya has learned in the past week how to strip off all of her clothing. Yesterday she spent the morning running around with her pants on her head!  Not so bad when it's just the pants but, her dad says she's managed to strip off her diaper during her nap time and soak her bed!

Just off the needles, a Maltese Hat. The Knit Baby Surprise Yahoo group will be doing a knitalong of this hat starting next Thursday.

Mom's Birthday
Mood:  rushed
Now Playing: World series
Topic: Felting

My Mom and sister's joint birthday dinner is Saturday and since I am a knitter with 17 or 18 pairs of socks in progress - 2 for Socks For Soldiers - (can we say obsessed?), I thought "why not knit Mom a pair of nice warm felted slippers?"  Seemed like a good idea at the time.  Well here I sit, trying to watch the World Series and the washer, at the same time.  The washer is now on the third cycle, the toes and heels of the slippers have felted nicely along with the teeny sock change purse I knit from leftover Paton's Classic Wool in camo color.  The body of the slippers, made from Kool Aid dyed Lion Brand Fishermans Wool is steadfastly refusing to felt!!!  Am I panicking????  Yes and no, I have more of whatever lovely wool I used to knit the toes and heels which have felted very nicely, however what I do not have in abundance is time.  I have to work tomorrow night and Saturday morning.   Unfortunately, it would appear the slippers have won.  I just checked them, on the fourth cycle and although they are quite fuzzy they are not quite felted.  Looks like I'd better get knitting on slippers part B.  Hope we aren't too busy at work tomorrow.

What I've been workig on.
Mood:  rushed
Topic: Knitting

Realized I hadn't posted for awhile!  I've been busy working on some gifts, watching Onya, and getting the house ready for winter.   Haven't made many things for my new grand baby so I've been knitting away on some booties and hats for her.

Wanted to make a dolls for Onya and Kat for Christmas. Didn't find a pattern I liked so I'm making it up as I go.

I plan on making the two grandbabies matching dresses and will hopefully have time over Christmas to take them to get their pictures taken in them.

My Aunt Jean is in a local nursing home and my cousin and I went to visit her yesterday. I took her the shawl I crocheted for her to wear during chemo treatments and she just loved it. Her roommate , I could tell was looking at it quite longingly so I've decided to make this one for her.

You can find the pattern for the shawl here:

Finished this 45 x 72" quilt for my Step Children's Aunt and Uncle who just celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary

Made this quilt for my daughter-in-law's friend Ann. Ann lost her mom and dad both recently and this quilt is made from their clothing. The first and third blocks at the top are made from Ann's dad's Army BDU's and I attached his name tags and unit patches.

All Seasons Shawl
Mood:  bright
Topic: crochet

Finished the All Seasons Crocheted Shawl I've been making for my Aunt Jean. She's under going treatment for Breast Cancer and I thought this would keep her warm while getting her chemo.  Brandi was gracious enough to model it for me. I used Red Heart Supersaver in the color Frost.

Mike (our oldest son) called around 9:30 last night and said his wife Karrie was having contractions 3 minutes apart and they were at the hospital. We haven't heard a thing since. Darn Kid!

Experiment
Mood:  happy
Topic: Felting
I love to felt.  I made a pair of socks from the new Paton's SWS and had enough left over to make this purse.  I still have to sew the closure on it yet, but isn't this cool????  I love this yarn!!  The socks are thick and comfy and it felts quickly and makes a very thick fabric.

Wretched Ball Band Cloth
Topic: crochet
Finally got around to trying out the Wretched Ballband Dishcloth from Mason Dixon Knitting. Turned out okay. Not sure I'd make it again but I do like it.

It was fun knitting and will make a good swap for my Dishcloth list.

Tonight our Library Ladies (East Palestine Ohio Public Library) Knitting Group meets for the first time since May. I can't wait to see everyone. We'll be starting a Braided Scarf pattern and are doing a yarn swap for a Christmas knitting bag project. We're going to vote to see if we'd like to form an actual Knitting Guild or just stay they way we have been for the last year and a half and meet informally.
