Wretched Ball Band Cloth
Topic: crochet
Finally got around to trying out the Wretched Ballband Dishcloth from Mason Dixon Knitting. Turned out okay. Not sure I'd make it again but I do like it.
It was fun knitting and will make a good swap for my Dishcloth list.
Tonight our Library Ladies (East Palestine Ohio Public Library) Knitting Group meets for the first time since May. I can't wait to see everyone. We'll be starting a Braided Scarf pattern and are doing a yarn swap for a Christmas knitting bag project. We're going to vote to see if we'd like to form an actual Knitting Guild or just stay they way we have been for the last year and a half and meet informally.

Gettysburg Trip
Mood:
happy
Cathi here.
August 30th was our 20th wedding anniversary. In honor of the occasion we spent 4 days in Gettysburg, PA, my favorite place on the planet! I'm a Civil War Nut and I do have the tee shirt to prove it.
We took two days to do the Auto Tour and still didn't get to see everything...guess that means we'll have to go back!!! Oh yeah!!! It was awe-inspiring to be there, stand in the very spots where it all happened, to walk the very ground where my all time hero, Joshua Chamberlain of the 20th Maine Regiment, walked. It was an incredible experience to look across that mile expanse between Seminary Ridge and Cemetery Ridge and try to imagine the amount of courage and commitment it took for those Confederate soldiers to make that charge, Pickett's Charge, under heavy artillery fire, knowing that the entire Federal Army was waiting for them on the other side of the stone wall.

I'm working on renaming the photos, but I hit the wrong button and wiped out an hour's work so now I have to start all over! I'm so thrilled!
Gail also told me to post about the yarn shop in Gettysburg, Misty Mountain Fiber Workshop. Lovely place, nice people. I bought two skeins of orange cotton yarn for footies. I have to wear socks at work so I knit cotton footies for summer. I'm spoiled, I only wear handknit socks!

Target Wave Mittens
Mood:
surprised
Topic: Knitting
Tried out a new pattern yesterday. These crazy mittens can be found in the Fall Issue of Interweave Magazine. I made the first one on two needles but, switched to the Magic Loop Method for the second one for the wrist, top, and thumb target. Liked it much better the second way. Pretty strange but, well liked by my girls .

One Skein Swap
Mood:
chatty
Topic: Knitting
This is a picture of the gal I knit for during the One Skein Swap project that Interweave Press sponsored. I knit Bernadette a felted knitting bag, lined it with matching fabric and added a few knitting goodies for making a pair of socks. Bernadette is a fantastic knitter (I browsed through her blog) so I'm sure she'll make great socks with the yarn I included. I loved that swap project and sure had fun participating.
Hey, Cathi! You need to enter some of your knitting in the Lawrence County Fair. There were way more projects entered than at Columbiana County and none were as good as your socks.
The girls had a great time at the fair and even got to help take Crystal's (our future daughter in law) cows to the milking parlor and help get them in line for milking!! You should have seen "Miss Priss" Beth with all the muck and mess!! I'm so proud of Ben for all his hard work with Crystal. For a kid who never had much to do with any of our farm animals, he's become quite the farm boy and really supports Crystal! She's one amazing girl and I'm so glad God blessed us with her becoming a part of our family. Sure wish I'd have taken along a camera, a picture of the girls leading cows would have been priceless!!

Knitting Bag Exchange
Mood:
hug me
Topic: Knitting
Hmmmm,Hey Cathi,
I got word our library gals are a bit intimidated by the gift exchange idea for Christmas. I plan to have everyone bring 12 oz. of worsted weight yarn to swap at our September meeting. I hope to see that each member of our group knits or crochets a knitting bag for the person who's yarn they get (we'll play a game to exchange the yarns), I'll make and install linings in the bags and then each person will spend $10 to fill the bag for the original owner of the yarn. We'll all bring them to the December Christmas party for a gift exchange.
Anyway, the gals are afraid that they won't make a nice enough bag to exchange so we've got to come up with a couple of nice, very easy patterns. I'm posting an easy square bag pattern right now and will try and post a new one every few days. Here is todays with a picture coming asap.

Today's Mail
Mood:
celebratory
Topic: Knitting
Today's mail brought me my One Skein Swap for August. I just love them Susan! My swap partner is Susan from Honolulu and she knit me the fingerless mitts from the book in my favorite color of green.
I also received my Sock Swap Kit from Kim in Highland Park, NJ. It's an adorable knit purple and black backpack and contained a skein of Step yarn made by the same company that makes Opal. The yarn is in greens and burgandys, my favorite colors. Also in the bag were Brittany double points, a crochet hook and a needle gauge. What a great swap! Thank you so much Kim! I just love the bag and will have to hide it from my daughter Brandi. Purple is her favorite color. I'll really enjoy making the socks!

Took Best of Show at the County Fair with my latest BSJ. It's for Onya but, she won't let me try it on her to make sure it fits. I don't blame her, it's 84 out. I also won two other blue ribbons and two reds.

Cathi's favorite knitting outlet
I knit. I love to knit socks, my sock yarn stash will probably outlive me if I never buy another ball of yarn.
My present outlet for this knitting obsession is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SOCKFORSOLDIERS/
I can think of no better way to show support for our brave men and women of the Armed Forces than lovingly, stitch by stitch, creating a pair of hand made socks.

Working through the summer
Mood:
spacey
I have finally given up and have started a knitting blog. I spent so much time reading all my friends and thought I'd like to start an online Diary of what 've been knitting and what the Bable's have been doing as a family. I'm hoping to talk my best buddy, Cathi into joining me here.
Summer has been flying by. There are only 25 days left until the girls start school. Katie and Beth are busy with Cheerleading practices. Katie got her uniform yesterday. While Brandi still has her softball uniform, we are heading out to Wal-Mart today to get their pictures taken in their uniforms.
Knitting... oh gosh, I have so many projects in the works, literally a dozen pairs of socks in mid-works and I'm knitting a Fairisle sweater for Onya. I'm also busy crocheting around afghan blocks for the Cheynne River Indian Reservation for the charity group I belong to at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NativeAmericanSupport/
Cathi and I have projects entered in the County Fair. I'll let you know how we do.
